Welcome to the City of Rio Hondo!  In 1910 this small town was founded by J.R George. The name Rio Hondo means "Deep River" which represents the settlement on the Arroyo Colorado. Our city is defined less by boundaries on a map than by the sense of shared values our residents cherish.  We encourage our citizens to maintain a wholesome lifestyle, a deep commitment to the preservation of our environment, and a progressive approach to local business. Our pride is found on our Yellow Bridge which is the only lift bridge left in Texas built from 1945 through 1960. This bridge represents unity within our citizens and is the symbol of this city. Rio Hondo contains a rich cultural history and a positive demeanor that sets it apart from any other town.
